Two years to the day the NYPD detective was fatally shot while on the job, a new mural was unveiled Friday morning in the Bronx to honor her life.

Family, friends, and supporters gathered on Ryer Avenue near East 181st Street in Fordham Heights as a large mural of Miosotis Familia was revealed.

"It's definitely a very bittersweet moment where it's beautiful to see a mural, to see her face and for her to be honored this way, especially when this street was renamed after her," Genesis Familia, the detective's daughter, said at the ceremony, fighting back tears. "I just hope that she'll never be forgotten."

Familia was shot and killed while sitting in her mobile command unit July 5, 2017. Responding officers killed the gunman.

Familia was a beloved 12-year veteran of the NYPD and a mother of three. The police officer was posthumously promoted to detective, first grade, after she was killed.

"To do this massive mural for Officer Familia, it is such an honor to do this because she was a people person," said Kenny Altidor, the mural artist. "The whole family loved her and the community loved her."

Last year, the street outside of the 46th Precinct stationhouse where Familia worked was renamed after her.
